100 faces

3 days, 1 market, 101 faces.

I did my best to transcribe the names written in my notebook. Thank you all for participating. Though many people declined, you helped me with my project and your faces make up one beautiful collage, don’t you think?

  • Kyle - This is wonderful! I love this entire series. You’ve definitely got a talent for capturing someone’s essence. On a side note, is there a particular lens you find yourself using as your “go to” portrait lens? I’ve got an 85L but it doesn’t spend much time on my camera. I’m thinking I should bring it out for more portrait work like this.ReplyCancel

    • [email protected] - Thanks, Kyle!

I use my cannon 50mm 1.2 95% of the time!! It works so well for so many things. I try and use my 35 when I can, I also have a 100 that I like for recording video (especially when someone is strumming a guitar or something!) Hope this helps!ReplyCancel

      • Kyle - Thanks! I know gear isn’t really as important as the artist’s vision and finding an interesting subject, but I was just curious. I have my 50L on close to 80% of the time, so at least I’ve got that right. I’ve seen a lot of photogs who only own the 35/85 combo and they do great things with it. I guess those two together make for great diptychs.ReplyCancel

  • Julia Manchik - I love shooting people when we’re traveling, but it can be so hard to work up the nerve and put in the effort. Bravo for getting 101 faces! It’s beautiful.ReplyCancel

    • [email protected] - Thanks, yes… it was painfully hard at time. I had moments of frustration with humanity, but so much faith in it too as kind people said yes. On my last day, I had an 8 year old with me as an experiment. One couple definitely came back because of her… She held a sign that said, “FREE PHOTOS” I don’t think the sign helped though!ReplyCancel

      • Kim Romweber - Hi there- my wife and myself were approached and our photos taken. I was very excited to see them amongst the rest, but alas they are absent. Are there some photos that did not make the blog? Just wondering. Regards, kim and jennifer romweberReplyCancel
